The Why Behind the Work
Welcome—glad you found your way here.
This newsletter is for people who want to train with purpose, recover intelligently, and feel more capable in their everyday lives. Whether you’re a dedicated recreational athlete or someone trying to build a more resilient foundation for the long haul, you’re in the right place.
I’m Eric Vilanova, a coach who’s spent the past several years helping people translate science into real progress. Like many in this field, I didn’t start out here—I arrived because I needed it. Fitness and wellness have always been the thing that kept me grounded, even during years in a career that looked good on paper but left me feeling drained and disconnected.
I’ve always been obsessed with how the body works: how we adapt, recover, perform, and sustain. Eventually, I realized that obsession didn’t just have to live in the background. It could shape my career—and help others make sense of their own performance and health in the process.
That’s what this newsletter is about.
Each week, I share focused, practical pieces drawn from real coaching conversations. Some recent topics include:
What “recovery” really means, and how to know if you’re getting enough
What your biomarkers are (and aren’t) telling you about stress and adaptation
How to eat for energy without being obsessive
How to build aerobic capacity without burning out
If you care not just about what works, but why it works—this is for you. I believe understanding the mechanisms gives you more than just knowledge. It gives you leverage: the ability to make smarter decisions, adjust when life shifts, and stay consistent over time.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, hit subscribe. You’ll get one email a week—no fluff, no gimmicks, just useful insights you can apply right away.
And if someone in your life could benefit from this approach—feel free to share it. The more people thinking clearly about performance and health, the better.
Let’s dig in.
